Urgent Ophthalmology Referrals

Leeds Teaching Hospitals have issued guidance to Optometrists who require to refer a patient urgently.

Primary Care Access Line (PCAL) – (0113) 2065996 can be called by any Optometrist to refer a patient urgently.

PCAL lines are open from 7am-12am Monday to Friday and 8am-7pm Saturday and Sunday. These lines are staffed by nurses who are experienced in general Accident & Emergency nursing so will not have specialist ophthalmic knowledge but may have some decision making protocols.

Please ensure a paper copy of the referral is provided for any referral made via PCAL whether it be through CUES, GOS or private test.
