Cataract Direct Referral – Pre-Op and Post-Op Services

A direct referral service for cataract exists in Wolverhampton, and there is an additional fee that can be claimed.

Cataract Pre-Op the patient is dilated to exclude other pathology and completes a self-assessment questionnaire before referral direct  to the provider. At December 2023 the local provider hospitals are Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary, SpaMedica Wolverhampton and Nuffield.

Cataract Post-Op        after surgery at either of the above hospitals the provider hospital refers the patient back to their optometrist via Opera for the post-op assessment. The patient can be re-referred afterwards for second eye surgery as needed.
