Welcome to Leicestershire and Rutland LOC

Leicestershire & Rutland Local Optometric Committee

Leicestershire & Rutland Local Optometric Committee (L&R LOC) is the statutory NHS body which represents the providers and performers of General Ophthalmic Services (GOS), as well as other local optometric services, in the Leicestershire and Rutland area.

The Committee is responsible to the Leicestershire and Lincolnshire Area Team of NHS England. It also interacts with the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) within Leicestershire and Rutland.

GOS (known commonly as NHS sight testing) is provided by contractors (normally high street practices and domiciliary companies). Contracts can be held by optometrists, ophthalmic medical practitioners, dispensing opticians, lay persons or companies. Sight tests are usually performed by optometrists, who must be registered with the General Optical Council and be on the Ophthalmic Performers List administered by an Area Team on behalf of NHS England.
