Want to Make a Difference? Volunteer Your Skills as an Optometrist to Help Homeless Individuals Access Free Eye Tests & Glasses!

We are Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) – a national charity providing free eye tests and glasses to those experiencing homelessness across the country. Perhaps you have already heard of us?

Our eye clinics are NHS-regulated, with 10 locations across England and one in Scotland. We provide all optical equipment, and our optometrists are fully supported by assistants and a Clinic Manager. Our testing rooms are set up much like a typical high street optician, and we’d be happy to send you a video or arrange a visit before your first shift.

We don’t ask for a huge commitment as we know people are busy. Volunteering at a clinic around once a month would help us to provide a regular vision care service for those who are affected by homelessness in your area. There will also be opportunities to receive CPD points

So many of our volunteers report that their time with us is hugely rewarding. For those experiencing homelessness, receiving a pair of glasses can often be the first steppingstone towards accessing a brighter future. Could you spare a few hours to help us deliver these vital clinics?

We are particularly looking for volunteer optometrists for our clinics in Exeter, Brighton, Plymouth, London and Leeds, but we welcome volunteers at our other 8 clinics as well.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please click here. All our available roles are advertised on our website: here is the link.

Any questions, please send an email to info@vchp.org.uk.
