Important update regarding Sussex Interpreting Services (SIS)
28 October 2026
Dear all,
Please see important update regarding Sussex Interpreting Services (SIS)
Kind regards,
East Sussex LOC
Dear colleagues,
We are writing to make you aware that Sussex Interpreting Services (SIS) has informed the Integrated Care Board of its decision to cease operations from 31 October 2026.
We understand that some practices have received direct correspondence and this has led to concerns about the future of local services and support.
The ICB can confirm that SIS has taken this decision independently, following a review of the organisation’s long-term financial sustainability and is not a result of any decision by the ICB to withdraw the service.
SIS has confirmed that it will continue to accept and fulfil bookings for appointments taking place up to and including 31 October 2026. However, the service is no longer accepting bookings for appointments scheduled from 1 November 2026 onwards.
We recognise the important role interpreting services play in supporting equitable access to primary care. We are currently working closely with system partners to ensure arrangements are in place longer term to maintain access to interpreting services.
However in the meantime, alternative interpreting services, some with online booking portals, are below. These are already commissioned and available to practices free of charge:

-
- Vandu – info@vandu.co.uk

These services are being extended to ensure continuity of services beyond 31 October, whilst we secure long term arrangements. We do not anticipate any interruption to provision and will provide further updates should any action be required from practices.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Primary Care Commissioning Team
