Glaucoma Repeat Readings (GRR)

Aim of the Service:

The Glaucoma Repeat Readings Service (GRRS) aims to reduce false-positive referrals into Hospital Eye Service (HES) glaucoma clinics, particularly for patients referred due to raised intraocular pressure (IOP) and/or suspicious visual fields.

Entry Criteria

Patients may be suitable for the pathway if identified during a GOS or private sight test with:

· IOP greater than 24 mmHg but less than 31 mmHg measured using non-contact tonometry (NCT)

· No additional signs suggestive of glaucoma

· And/or suspicious glaucomatous visual field results

Patients Not Suitable for GRRS

The following patients are  not suitable for the service:

· Patients already under Hospital Eye Services for glaucoma, ocular hypertension, or glaucoma suspect monitoring

· Patients under 18 years of age

· Patients with IOPs above pathway thresholds

· Patients with multiple suspicious glaucoma signs requiring enhanced assessment

These patients would typically require direct referral into Hospital Eye Services.

Accreditation Requirements

Practitioners must have:

· WOPEC Glaucoma Part 1 Accreditation

· Current safeguarding training

· Enhanced DBS compliance
