Consultant-Led CPD Evening at SpaMedica Portsmouth – 18 May 2026 

Hampshire LOC members are invited to a Consultant Ophthalmologist–led CPD event at SpaMedica Portsmouth on Monday 18 May 2026, starting at 6:00pm.

Mr Dario Inzerillo will deliver a 3‑point CPD session covering:

  • An Introduction to Premium Lenses and Patient Selection
  •  Basics of OCT Interpretation

The evening will also include opportunities to ask questions and discuss direct referrals for YAG and glaucoma. Hospital tours and refreshments will be available.

Update: Cataract Referrals Following CUES in Hampshire & Isle of Wight

Primary Eyecare Services has issued updated guidance regarding cataract referrals within the Hampshire & Isle of Wight area.

Practitioners are reminded that all cataract referrals must be made via the DORA Single Point of Access (SPoA)DORA Single Point of Access (SPoA). Contracted Independent Service Providers (ISPs) are not permitted to accept cataract referrals sent directly to them; any such referrals will be rejected.

A SPoA referral route is now available on OPERA for cases arising from CUES or where clinically required. To access this:

  • Select Ophthalmology > ROUTINE > Cataract
  • Choose HAMPSHIRE AND ISLE OF WIGHT CATARACT SPOA (DORA PHONECALL) from the provider list

Referrals submitted via this endpoint will be processed by Ufonia, who will contact the patient and forward the referral to the SPoA email.

Upcoming CPD Workshop: Quality in Enhanced Eye Care Services – Delayed Referrals

 

Primary Eyecare Services invites practitioners to an interactive CPD workshop exploring the challenges and patient‑safety risks associated with delayed referrals in enhanced eye care services.

 

Using three real‑world case studies, the session will examine both systemic and individual factors that contribute to delays, with opportunities for peer discussion and shared learning. The workshop is designed to support safer, more consistent referral practice in line with GOC Standards of Practice

MHRA Alert: Semaglutide and Risk of NAION

The MHRA has issued a safety alert regarding Semaglutide (Wegovy, Ozempic and Rybelsus) following reports of a potential association with Non‑Arteritic Anterior Ischaemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION).

Practitioners are encouraged to review the full MHRA alert and the accompanying guidance from the College of Optometrists, and to take any appropriate clinical actions in line with current best practice.
