WOPEC

WOPEC (Wales Optometry Postgraduate Education Centre) remains the only dedicated optometry postgraduate education centre in the world, and is based in Cardiff University’s School of Optometry and Vision Sciences.

It provides a dedicated facility for education and training for optometrists, other eye care practitioners, and allied health professionals, to produce a workforce of specialists who are able to deliver the highest quality of care to their patients. WOPEC offers a wide range of postgraduate taught courses for eye care professionals in the UK.

Hampshire LOC will fund any (NHS) performer or contractor working in Hampshire wishing to complete the various postgraducate courses.

Most courses are online. For any in person assessments, the LOC periodically arrange OSCEs for MECS and Glaucoma (depending on demand)

The only WOPEC courses required for Hampshire and Isle of Wight services:

• Cataract – required for post cataract (with certain ISPs only)

To perform CUES, no WOPEC code is needed as CUES it is a core competency service
