Collaboration on research studies with Southampton

A message from Professor Andrew Lotery.

We have a couple of new clinical trials I’d appreciate it if you could alert your colleagues too as we would be keen to screen potential patients for them.

The first is an intravitreal gene therapy trial for geographic atrophy.

This requires patients to have at least one optic disc area of geographic atrophy and for the area of atrophy to not involve the foveal centre.

The second is an oral drug therapy to reduce progression of early AMD. So patients need to have early or intermediate AMD in one eye and wet AMD in the other eye.If you have any possible patients please can you let me know by email – a.j.lotery@soton.ac.uk

Video from PhD student on AMD and diet

A message from Gift of Sight.

One of our PhD students in the vision science team has produced a short 5 minute video as part of her studies, and we thought it might be useful to share it with you.

Her topic of investigation is the role of diet in AMD. The video features animation of what happens to the cells when impacted by diet, along with an explanation by Andrew Lotery. The video is designed to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy diet when it comes to eyes.

Anna is also looking for feedback on the video to help complete her project and has produced an anonymous survey for viewers to fill in after watching the film.
