Birmingham LOC
Birmingham Local Optical Committee (BLOC) is the official organisation representing optometrists, dispensing opticians and optical contractors within the NHS in Birmingham. It provides advice to the NHS England Midlands Area Team, to optometrists, dispensing opticians and optical contractors in the area and to the Integrated Care Board covering Birmingham. The Committee is supported by the National Local Optical Committee Central Support Unit (LOCSU)
The LOC also works closely with Primary Eyecare Services Ltd (PES) in the procurement and provision of enhanced primary eye care services in conjunction with the Birmingham & Solihull Integrated Care Board [ICB] as well as the associated training and accreditation required for eye care professionals contracted to take part in those services.
BLOC is always happy to assist member contractors and providers regarding the extent and role of Clinical Governance within optometry.
BLOC is in close contact with the other Local Optical Committees within the Birmingham, Solihull and the Black Country (BSBC) area and is a constituent member of the Heart of West Midlands Optical Confederation [HWMOC} together with Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton Local Optical Committees.
In order to further promote the adoption and expansion of enhanced optometry services within the BSBC area HWMOC also works closely with PES and LOCSU.
The Midland Optical Society (MOS) is the CPD provider arm of the LOC, For details of MOS events, click here.
