Walsall General Referral Guidelines

When referring patients who have a Walsall GP, the routine referral is to their GP via GOS 18, please see the link for GP location. Walsall Manor Hospital does not operate a direct referral service to the Manor Hospital, other than pre-cataract on OPERA.

Patients with neighbouring GPs may have alternative referral methods and/or pathways, please see the links below for neighbouring LOC and referral criteria.

There is no emergency eye care service at Walsall Manor Hospital, the nearest eye casualty will be New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton or BMEC, Birmingham.

Wolverhampton General Referral Guidelines

IMPORTANT: please read the Referral Guidelines V5 (April 2023) which includes email addresses.

On receipt at Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary, the referral will be reviewed by a consultant according to the “Referral Assesment Service” protocol and prioritised according to the details in your letter. The RAS is effective if your letter is clear and contains reason for referral, relevant findings and a suggested clinic and priority.
