Cataract Direct Referral – Pre-Op and Post-Op Services

 

Primary Eyecare Services (PES) is a company set up through LOCSU as a provider organisation to deliver extended primary eyecare services.

Walsall operates a direct referral service for cataract enhanced service with additional fees, the service is administered via PES and uses the OPERA platform.

Cataract Pre-Op Requirements

The patient is dilated to exclude other pathology and completes a self-assessment questionnaire before referral direct to their chosen provider on the OPERA platform.

The local provider hospitals are Walsall Manor Hospital, Cannock Chase Hospital, SpaMedica Wolverhampton or Birmingham. Other providers are listed on the OPERA site.

Cataract Post-Op Requirements

 After surgery SpaMedica refers the patient back to their optometrist via OPERA for the post-op assessment. The patient can be re-referred afterwards for second eye surgery as needed.
