North Yorkshire Local Optical Committee

North Yorkshire Local Optical Committee (NYLOC) is the official representative for all GOS contractors and practitioners within North Yorkshire and work with their local commissioners (ICBs) on matters relating to NHS optical services. Funded by a statutory levy on GOS sight tests in North Yorkshire.

GOS (known commonly as NHS sight testing) is provided by contractors (normally high street practices and domiciliary companies). Contracts can be held by optometrists, ophthalmic medical practitioners, dispensing opticians, lay persons or companies. Sight tests are usually performed by optometrists, who must be registered with the General Optical Council and be on the Ophthalmic Performers List administered by an Area Team on behalf of NHS England.
