Cataract Referrals & SPoA Update
Humber and North Yorkshire ICB
Last year, the Humber and North Yorkshire ICB introduced the Single Point of Access (SPoA) for cataract referrals. This means GOS18 referrals are now processed via Gateway Accenda rather than the previous referral refinement form sent to the Choice Office.
Practice Workflow & Regional Uptake:
- Practices not yet using Gateway should continue to complete a GOS18 and email it to the Choice Office.
- We strongly encourage all regional practices to review whether Gateway is suitable for their current workflow.
- Current Metrics: System uptake across the ICB currently stands at 50%, with 40% of total cataract referrals now submitted through the system.
The ICB has also confirmed a mandatory 16-week wait time for cataract surgery. Moving forward, all postoperative care will be delivered in the community setting unless a case is flagged as clinically complex.
Post-Operative Fee Update: Due to ongoing budget constraints, there is currently no update regarding a potential increase in the post-operative fee, despite continuous efforts from our Chairperson, Katherine.
