If IOP is over 30mmHg you should make an emergency referral

If you are considering referring for IOP alone with no other signs of glaucoma, repeat measures should be done, see here.

All patients with Wolverhampton GPs who otherwise need a referral for suspect glaucoma should be seen under the GERS scheme (Glaucoma Enhanced Referral Service) in the first instance and NOT referred to the GP/hospital. You will need to refer to an optical practice in the Wolverhampton area who is taking part in the scheme.

Full information on the GERS scheme can be found here.

Wolverhampton GP list – please check the patient’s GP is eligible (has a Wolverhampton CCG medical centre) for GERS before referring to another practice. A list of GP practices as of November 2023 is below.

It is good practice to ask the patient to contact your practice if they haven’t heard in the expected time frame and document this on your record. If a patient contacts you then you should endeavour to chase the referral with the GERS practice.
