What is the Community Urgent Eyecare Service?
The Community Urgent Eyecare Service (CUES) provides urgent assessment, treatment or referral for sudden onset eye problems such as flashes, floaters, vision loss or minor eye injuries.
CUES practices use a triage form to decide if a patient needs CUES. If you wish to get a better idea of the conditions covered you can access it below
What if a patient contacts the practice with signs or symptoms that indicate CUES but my practice doesn’t offer it?
If a patient contacts your practice with sign/symptoms that suggests the need for CUES and your practice doesn’t provide CUES you should recommend they go to https://primaryeyecare.co.uk/ and click on “find a practice” to find an optician local to them that offers the service.
The patient should be told to contact a CUES practice straight away, but do not indicate a time scale they should be seen in or suggest what treatment they should expect to receive.
CUES is not a walk in service, so the patient should phone the practice in the first instance.
I am considering joining the CUES scheme, what is the next step?
