SPoA Cataract Referrals

For cataract referrals please follow the Single Point of Access (SPoA) protocol. In instance of system downtime or for those who have yet to register, please email cataract referrals to hnyicb-voy.choice@nhs.net

For instruction on how to refer via Accenda Gateway, please see the demo here.

Patient Experience SPoA

  • Patient is referred for cataract surgery by a community optometrist via the Gateway portal
  • The ‘Referral Support Service’ will contact the patient by telephone to discuss their choice of NHS cataract surgery providers. If the RSS is unable to contact the patient, they will send a text message and then post a letter to the patient
  • The patient will be issued a booking reference number and an access code. These are needed for the patient to book an appointment via the e-Referral Service. Patients can use this page to track appointment status, change or cancel an appointment or cancel the referral.

When referring a patient for cataract surgery, the Optometrist should ensure all providers are discussed so that the patient can make informed choices about their care as per GOC standards of practice. This gives the patient appropriate time to research before making a decision with the RSS.

Patient information leaflets with a list of cataract providers for Hull and East Yorkshire will be uploaded onto the EYLOC website pending approval.

For any queries regarding SPoA, please fill out the form on the ‘Contact Us’ page of the EYLOC website.
