Community Urgent Eyecare Service

The Community Urgent Eyecare Service (CUES) provides urgent assessment, treatment or referral for acute eye conditions. See below for list of CUES ‘referral reasons’.

Referral Reason:

• Flahes/Floaters of less than 13 week duration
• Red eye with pain
• Photophobia
• Painful Eye
• New flashes/floaters (urgent)
• Blurry vision (non-refractive)
• Diplopia
• Distorted vision
• Sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes (urgent)
• Symptomatic field loss
• Ingrowing eye lashes
• Non-penetrating foreign body
• Differential diagnosis of dry eye lasting longer than 2 weeks having seen the pharmacist
• Eyelid lumps and bumps
• White of eye anomaly

CUES claiming is done via the PharmOutcomes portal, here

To sign up to PharmOutcomes please submit a request via the LOC website on the ‘Contact Us’ page.

To register patients, see ‘Hull and East Riding CUES Registration’ tabs on the left hand side of the PharmOutcomes page.

For practitioners to complete claims after CUES appointment, click ‘Hull and East Riding CUES First Attendance/ Follow Up’ on the left hand side of the PharmOutcomes page.

For patients with symptomatic dry eye, conjunctivitis and non-urgent red/sore eyes, please signpost to the relevant NHS information links and give appropriate advice before assessing under the CUES scheme

Patients with chronic eye conditions are not eligible for the Community URGENT Eyecare Service (CUES)

Please note that if a patient has accessed Pharmacy First or GP and received intervention for eye symptoms, CUES can not be claimed for the same symptoms within a 6 month period

Children over 2 years old can be seen on the CUES scheme

Contact lens wearers on a contact lens subscription, are not eligible under CUES for contact lens related symptoms. Contact lens wearers can not be seen under the CUES scheme for contact lens related symptoms, a private service should be offered and charged as per practice discretion.

GOS sight tests cannot be performed at the same time as a CUES appointment

Patients can not be seen under the CUES scheme for the same symptoms within a 6 month period
