Wiltshire LOC News – CPD and Research Opportunities
29 September 2025
Dear Colleagues,
Wiltshire LOC continues to champion professional development and patient-centred care. This month’s highlights include a CPD session on inclusive practice, a research survey on glaucoma referrals, and a hospital open day celebrating innovation in cataract services.
Glaucoma Referral Practices – Research Survey
Primary care optometrists in the Salisbury District Hospital catchment area are invited to take part in a short, anonymous survey exploring current testing and referral practices for patients with late-presenting glaucoma. The study also seeks professional opinions on existing pathways and factors contributing to advanced glaucomatous loss.
The survey takes 10–15 minutes and forms part of an MSc research project by Ellen Maul (University of Plymouth), supervised by Dr Leanne Smewing. Results will be published and shared through professional bodies.

Through real-world case discussions in breakout rooms, attendees will strengthen skills in empathetic communication, inclusive practice, and equitable decision-making. Cameras and microphones must be switched on to participate fully.
