Referral Process For Military Patients Registered with Military GP Practices
28 January 2025
To clarify the process for referring military
patients, or those registered with military GP practices in the area, for secondary care
treatment at an eye hospital:
When referring a patient in these circumstances, please ensure that the referral is sent
directly to the relevant military GP practice using the email addresses provided below. The
military GP will then upload the referral onto the NHS Electronic Referral System (ERS),
and an appointment will be arranged in due course.
To streamline the process and avoid delays, we would like to emphasise the importance of
ensuring that your referral letters are clear and specific. It is essential to state:
1. The main reason for the referral and the assessment or treatment required.
2. It is helpful if you can specify the eye clinic the patient needs to be referred into
(e.g., Glaucoma, Cataract, Anterior Eye/Cornea, Vitreo-Retina, Oculoplastics, Low
Vision, Orthoptics, Neuro-Ophthalmology etc).
Military GPs often do not have the specialist knowledge to determine the appropriate clinic
if the referral lacks detail. Providing clarity will ensure the patient is referred promptly to
the correct service.
Below is the list of email addresses for the military GP practices across the region:
• Abbeywood: ukstratcom-dms-dphc-abw-admingrp@mod.gov.uk
• Bulford: ukstratcom-dms-dphc-abw-admingrp@mod.gov.uk
• Corsham: ukstratcom-dms-dphc-cor-grp@mod.gov.uk
• Larkhill: ukstratcom-dms-dphc-lar-grp@mod.gov.uk
• Lyneham: ukstratcom-dms-dphc-lar-grp@mod.gov.uk
• Shrivenham: ukstratcom-dms-dphc-lar-grp@mod.gov.uk
• Tidworth: ukstratcom-dms-dphc-tid-grp@mod.gov.uk
• Warminster: ukstratcom-dms-dphc-war-grp@mod.gov.uk
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your continued support in providing
excellent care to all our patients, including those in the military community. Should you
have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us.
