EeRS

What is it? EeRS stands for Electonic Eyecare Referral System.

This will make all referrals in Staffordshire faster and more reliable, with a direct referral to Ophthalmology. It will also allow a better line of communication between patients, optometrists and ophthalmology – with optometrists being able to see where their patients are in the referral pathway and get feedback from Ophthalmology.

Referrals to be sent via Cinapsis on EeRS – all referrals following a sight test (GOS/Private)

The role out of EeRS does not affect the current services in place such as CUES, Glaucoma Repeat Measures, Pre/Post Cataract.

Find your patient from the NHS spine.

You will be shown Hospitals available to your patient for the referral and choose the clinic or you can also search by condition.

The EeRS programme are currently advancing cross border referral between neighbouring ICBs. Staffordshire has cross border connections with Derby and Derbyshire ICB and Coventry and Warwickshire ICB with plans for into Shropshire Telford Wrekin and Black Country ICBs next.

If your patient chooses a provider that is geographically far from their home address please add notes to the referral form explaining the choice, eg. the patient has family in this area etc.  This will help to avoid rejection of the referral by the provider.

*If you cannot see the provider that your patient would like to be referred to you will need to make a referral via an email to the GP or email directly to the HES.*
