CPD Day, Making Accurate Claims, Join the Committee, DO Vacancy, FODO News

We have 6 items for you today:

1. CPD Day Monday 6th July at Tewinbury, Welwyn from 2pm until around 9pm with lots of points!
   We are currently putting the finishing touches to our plans for the first Herts LOC afternoon and evening CPD event on Monday 6th July 2026, at Tewinbury Farm, Welwyn AL6 0JB.

   We are intending for there to be a wide variety of sessions such as a different take on Myopia Management including the use of low dose atropine, clinical topics, spectacle lenses and even conflict resolution in practice.

   Lunch, dinner and networking time will be offered, too. We will open registration as soon as everything is confirmed but please keep the date free and we will look forward to seeing you there!

2. “Making Accurate Claims” – Update on System Outages
   
   There have been minor changes to Making Accurate Claims in England 2026. The changes can be found on page 17 (final paragraph) and page 27 (final paragraph), which clarify steps to take in the event of a PCSE system outage.

3. Join Herts LOC! Applications are invited from Local NHS Contractors and Performers to join Hertfordshire Local Optical Committee
   
   
   Herts LOC always like to welcome new members to increase the diversity of experience, backgrounds and opinions amongst our cohort. The LOC meets quarterly, along with an annual AGM. At these meetings we discuss a wide variety of topics which include the commissioning of local eye care pathways, ICB updates, organising CPD meetings and much more.
   
   
   
   In order to best represent the practitioners of Hertfordshire, we try to maintain a balance of Contractors and Performers, and those from Independents and Multiples. Currently, we have more Performers than Contractors, and more members from Independents than Multiples, so we would especially welcome applications from Contractors working within Multiples. However, all practitioners who are passionate about their profession and are keen to take an active role to help influence positive change are welcome to apply.

We cannot, of course, guarantee that those standing will be offered a place as we do need to limit the size of the committee and maintain a representative balance of roles.

5. CPD Evening at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Tuesday 16th June
   Théa are running a CPD event, “Tough Tears – Managing Ocular Surface Challenges” on Tuesday 16th June at PAH, Harlow. We are advised that “there will be 3 CPD points including Specialty IP”.
