Herts Vision Loss, FODO News And Merry Christmas!

28 December 2023

We have 4 items for you today:

      1. Herts Vision Loss (HVL) Grand Opening

Following their recent relocation, Herts LOC’s Low Vision Lead, Kavita Kathuria, recently attended the HVL’s grand reopening event. She writes:
“On 5th December 2023, I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of Herts Vision Loss’ new resource centre at 2 Brownfields, Welwyn Garden City.  The Chair Alex Hickinbotham told us about the charity’s history, starting out as Hertfordshire Society for the Blind in 1914. The CEO Clement Musonda’s speech welcomed everyone to the new premises and the mayor of Welwyn and Hatfield, Pankit Shah gave a lovely talk before cutting the ribbon and officially opening the centre.
Inside there was a display of all different types of equipment that would benefit people with visual impairments. From electronic magnifiers to talking scales, to large print diaries, there was something on display for everyone!
Herts Vision Loss is a charity set up to support and empower people in Hertfordshire with a visual impairment.  Their sight loss advisors can come to see the patient at home, with a range of gadgets to try.  They also facilitate and run groups with the aim of reducing social isolation; they have a counselling service; and help and support some of the working age clients back into work.
If you have a patient who you feel would benefit from HVL’s great work, please ask them to call their sightline on 01707 324680 or email them on
        office@hertsvisionloss.org.uk “.
