Update from NWL Ophthalmology Network – Clinical Reference Gr
17 February 2026
We are pleased to report that NWL NHS hospital Trusts are now reporting compliance with the agreed NHS referral to treatment time (RTT) target of 18
weeks for cataract surgery, glaucoma and retinal clinics.
Waiting times at some sites are particularly short as new capacity has become available for NWL patients e.g. cataract capacity at Central Middlesex and
Western Eye Hospital.
Generally, it is advisable for patients already attending a hospital for an eye condition to be referred to their existing NHS hospital trust for any further eye
investigation or treatment. This supports continuity and coordination of care in line with local referral pathways:
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (Western Eye Hospital),
London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (Central Middlesex and Willesden),
The Hillingdon Hospitals,
Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and
Moorfields (City road, Hubs: Northwick park and Ealing Hospital
