    • Vacancy – Eye Care Liaison Officer (ECLO), Chelmsford.
      RNIB are seeking an Eye Care Liaison Officer (ECLO) to be based at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford and Orsett Hospital. Further details can be found at the bottom of this newsletter.

 

    • Vacancy – Part Time Employment and Engagement Officer

      Support 4 Sight are seeking a part-time Employment and Engagement Officer to promote the charity and grow their reach and impact. Further details can be downloaded from HERE.

 

    • PCSE “Got A Question” AI Search Assistant
      Primary Care Support England (PCSE) have added an AI based search assistant to their website which they say will help users find the answers they’re looking for much more quickly. Further details can be found HERE.

 

    • Non Spoken Language Interpreting Service – User Training Sessions
      Herts and West Essex Integrated Care Board (HWEICB) have issued the following update from “Language Empire”:

      Language Empire are your provider of Non Spoken language services for all practices across your local ICB. LE will be providing some refresher training on how to navigate the booking portal, including how to manage, track and cancel your bookings.

      We aim to continue raising awareness of our services to help practices be as inclusive as possible, making sure that practices are aware of the assistance that is available for their deaf patients.

      The sessions will be no more than 30 minutes long and there will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the training.

      We appreciate how busy you all are and we will keep the sessions as short as possible but, would encourage you to join 1 of the 5 sessions that we will be putting on between the 04/03 to 08/03.

    • RNIB Peer Discussion in London – “Low Vision for primary care”

      The RNIB Low Vision Centre is holding a a CPD event for Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians on Wednesday 20th March 2024 6pm to 8.30pm at the Royal National Institute of Blind People, Grimaldi Building, 154a Pentonville Road, London N1 9JE. Spaces are limited and we are advised they are filling quickly. They advise:

      “This event will include 3 interactive CPD points (applied for), a light buffet & refreshments, and a chance to tour our low vision clinic at the new RNIB headquarters. It is kindly sponsored by Associated Optical who will also give a talk and display some of their latest low visual aids.

      This peer discussion will consider case records covering patients with low vision and those with additional needs. They will present the background behind the cases and facilitate small group discussions with feedback into the larger group at the end. Possible solutions to support patients that have low vision in practice will be discussed, including reasonable adaptations and signposting to appropriate support agencies.

Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: Broomfield Hospital Chelmsford (main location) and Orsett Hospital (with an expectation to sometimes work from other Essex locations, dependant on clinical need).

RNIB is pleased to announce this exciting opportunity to join the ECLO team as part of the RNIB Eye Care Support Service. This is a rewarding role that will give the right individual the opportunity to make a difference on a daily basis.

About the role

In this role, you will be a vital member of the team working directly with people diagnosed with conditions causing sight loss. You will provide critical emotional support, advice and guidance face to face within an eye care setting and also by phone. The Eye Care Support Service will be delivered within the Ophthalmology department predominately at Broomfield Hospital with an expectation to sometimes work out of other locations in the area.

As you would be part of an ECLO Team at this Trust, good communication, and teamwork are vital to ensure seamless patient support. There will also be opportunities to participate in activities promoting the service around the region.

Each day you will support people affected by sight loss helping them to identify their needs, access information and make informed choices which enable and empower them to maintain their independence.

You will have proven experience of delivering information and advice services working directly with the people you are supporting as well as maintaining professional relationships. Key to this role will be your excellent communication and relationship building skills with patients, clinicians, and a wide range of cross sector partners.

You will have the ability to work in different hospital locations as required.

You should be confident to work on your own initiative, have excellent organisational skills and be a confident user of IT systems. Impeccable record keeping skills are also key to this role.
