Welcome to the website of the Durham Local Optical Committee (LOC). Durham LOC is the official organisation which represents General Ophthalmic Services (GOS) providing optometrists and dispensing opticians in our area.
The purpose of this website is to provide eye care practitioners, other health care professionals, and the public with information about all aspects of eye care provision available within County Durham and Darlington.
The members area holds confidential information for practitioners. If you are a local practitioner wishing to register, please do so via the link at the top of the page.

If a patient contacts your practice to book a MECS appointment, you must offer them an appointment within the recommended time frame based on their symptoms. We are disappointed to communicate the news that the ICB has chosen to decommission the Cataract Pre-op scheme in our area. As of 04/08/2025 referrals in to this scheme will cease.
