28 October 2026

Dear All,

Email to recruit Optometrists who are not EEP providers

Dear Colleague,

I hope you are well.

We are inviting optometrists to take part in a focus group to discuss their experiences of providing eye examinations for people with learning disabilities.

The aim of the discussion is to better understand the experiences of optometrists, identify what works well, explore any challenges met, and gather ideas for improving access to high-quality eye care for people with learning disabilities.

Whether you have extensive experience or have only seen a small number of patients with learning disabilities, we would value hearing about your perspectives. Your feedback will help inform future service development, training, and recommendations for improving eye care.

The focus group will:

    • Last approximately 1-2 hours.
    • Take place online on (date and time TBC).
    • Be an informal discussion with other optometrists, facilitated by members of the research team.

Participation is voluntary, and all information shared during the focus group will be treated confidentially. Any findings will be anonymised so that individuals and practices cannot be identified.

If you are interested in taking part or would like more information, please reply to miriam.conway.1@citystgeorges.ac.uk.

We would greatly appreciate your time and contribution. By sharing your experiences, you can help shape future improvements in eye care services for people with learning disabilities.

Kind regards,

Dr. Miriam Conway
