Independent Prescribing Funding

Shropshire LOC have received funding from NHS England for optometrists currently performing GOS contracted services in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin to fund College-accredited higher qualifications to enhance the local optical workforce.
The third of these qualifications is Independent Prescribing for which we have been allocated 2 places at Cardiff University. This will be for the 2 year course in the September 2025 cohort.

Please note:

Only one application per performer will be considered

Previous recipients of funding are entitled to apply for further qualifications

Funding is only for the Independent Prescribing for Optometrists (PgCert) at Cardiff University on the 2-year programme.

Funding will also cover the cost of the IP placement which will take place at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. Dates of the placement will be confirmed in due course.

Funding is only available to cover the cost of the course fees and the IP placement. Funding isn’t available to cover any other spending commitments incurred during the course e.g. travel/accommodation to attend in-person teaching days

Professional Certificate in Medical Retina Funding
Shropshire LOC have funding for 10 places for Professional Certificate in Medical Retina. This qualification is a mandatory requirement to deliver the Medical Retina Referral Refinement service which will launch in the coming months.
