  • The patient should continue to be advised to contact the eye casualty triage line on 01865 234567, option 1 for eye emergency

The use of this account remains as previous. As a reminder:

  • This is ONLY for the receipt of definitive referrals to the Eye Emergency Department
  • This email address is NOT for clinical advice or guidance regarding routes of referrals. All other Urgent category referrals should now be sent via Rego and marked as “Urgent”
  • Please mark your referral clearly as for “eye emergency department” (or choose the correct option in OPERA)
  • Please ALSO ask the patient to call the eye emergency telephone triage: 01865 234567, Option 1
  • We will arrange an appropriate arrival time with the patient and instruct them about their arrival
  • When we receive the referral in the email account We Will NOT contact the patient ourselves. So please ensure you inform the patient to phone us to arrange their attendance.
  • If it is a time-critical emergency, (see E1 category referrals), then please encourage the patient to begin making their journey to us whilst this contact is made to reduce any delay
  • If you are unclear of the correct route for an emergency referral and particularly if the patient may arrive after the closing time for EED (Mon-Fri 16:30, Sat-Sun 15:30) then please contact the On-call Ophthalmologist through switchboard for advice
  • All referrals that are received by this email address that are not clearly intended for the eye emergency department will be rejected and it is the referrers responsibility to redirect these appropriately.
