Community Post-op Checks (SpaMedica)

There have been a number of enquiries from across Oxfordshire following the announcement of the termination of the post-operative cataract schemes – especially as SpaMedica are still issuing the same forms to patients requesting a follow-up to be completed. Following a meeting with SpaMedica yesterday (27th August) to discuss this, it is clear that they share many of the same concerns that we have been raising with the ICB on your behalf since these changes were first announced.

To clarify the current situation, SpaMedica have issued the below statement:

Until Ufonia, the ICB and SpaMedica have agreed a safe solution for our patients, we would like to share the following message to prevent any confusion across the area for the community optometrists we work with:

• We plan to support the new post-op scheme and are currently in the implementation phase; it is not live yet for us.
• We are working through the necessary governance, data-sharing, and internal process changes required with Ufonia before implementation.
• No patient details have been shared with Ufonia, so no calls or post-ops are being conducted for our patients at this time; we remain on our existing scheme.
• We will communicate to the community when the scheme is live and provide clear updates at that point.

Community optometrists should be assured that we will keep them informed and that no immediate action is required from them until further notice.
