Post-cataract audit form remuneration

The LOC is seeking expressions of interest for a proposed post-operative cataract data capture scheme for Secondary Care Audit.

This would be open to all optometrists working in the NTW area, though only patients who live or attend a GP practice in the North of Tyne areas would be eligible. No additional training is required; in particular, completion of the cataract WOPEC course is not required unless this becomes part of a full post-operative cataract service.

At this time eligible patients may only be those who have had uncomplicated surgery provided by Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals (NUTH). Non-CCG commissioned post-op arrangements for the independent sector remain unchanged.

Optometrists would be expected to complete and submit a form following the initial sight test four weeks post-surgery.  Required information is the full prescription and corrected visual acuity. This will involve the use of an admin process within the OPERA IT platform. The proposed practice remuneration for this is £5 per completed and submitted form.

The LOC committee wishes to make it known their collective opinion is that the proposed remuneration of £5 is wholely inappropriate as this fee does not cover true costs. We, therefore, invite the views of contractors and performers working in the NTW area to express their opinion on this proposal.

Please complete the form below by Wednesday 10th November.
