Optical Lead Vacancy

As a result of a changes to the LOCSU Optical Lead team, opportunities have arisen for highly skilled people to join the team of Optical Leads supporting Local Optical Committees (LOCs) across a range of projects and activities including service development, connectivity evolution and engagement with current NHS reforms.

About You

As an Optical Lead, you will have a proven track record of credible leadership in the optical sector and possess the ability to engage a range of stakeholders and develop productive and collaborative partnerships. You will be passionate about the potential for extending the scope of services delivered in primary care as well as the potential for reshaping the primary optical landscape in its delivery of extended services.

You will be able to provide effective support for LOCs including identifying opportunities and aiding discussion and negotiation with different commissioning and delivery systems. In addition, you will also be able to support LOCs in navigating the NHS reforms over the next 1-2 years. A strong working knowledge of commissioning structures, extended primary eye care services, and public health would be a significant advantage.

All applicants will have first-rate communication and interpersonal skills, excellent writing and networking skills, and the ability to multi-task and rapidly pull together high-quality reports. You will be comfortable working closely with a small head office team. You will need to be available for a minimum of 8 days per month.

Working from home, with the requirement to potentially travel as required and as Covid restrictions allow, to attend meetings; you will serve localities, attending meetings across it as required.

Hours are flexible but the ability to attend evening meetings is essential. A competitive daily rate is offered in addition to the opportunity to work with some of the top influencers in the optical sector.

LOCSU is the Local Optical Committee Support Unit, supporting Local Optical Committees (LOCs) in England across a range of activities relating to primary eyecare. Our work includes policy work and lobbying, pathway development, commissioning support, governance and compliance support communication and training.
